The Bear Who Did by Louise Greig and Laura Hughes announced as Indie Book of the Month for January
02/01/2020
The BA Children’s Bookselling Group has announced
The Bear Who Did
by Louise Greig and Laura Hughes as its children’s
Indie Book of the Month
for January, the first since the rebrand of the Independent Booksellers’ Children’s Book of the Month.
From the author of
The Night Box
, and illustrated by Laura Hughes (
There’s a Pig Up My Nose!
),
The Bear Who Did
tells the story of a hungry bear who steals a jar of honey from another, sparking a hilarious trail of events which lead to a calamitous conclusion.
The Bear Who Did
is published by
Egmont
and is available in bookshops now.
On the book’s selection author Louise Greig said,
“The great explorers took risks to bring back knowledge and discovery for the benefit of humanity. Independent booksellers do the same with books. They are fearless bearers of adventurous reading. I hope one by one they sail back to our towns and cities laden with literary treasure and receive from us a hero’s welcome.”
Illustrator Laura Hughes added,
“I'm delighted that The Bear Who Did has been chosen as children's book of the month. Independent bookshops are magical spaces that feed curiosity and spark the imagination. They are the lifeblood of the community they serve, enriching our high streets and supporting local jobs.”
Kirsty Woods, owner of Kibworth Books and member of the BA Children’s Bookselling Committee which selected The Bear Who Did said,
“I was really delighted to see this chosen for Book of the Month as it was one of my stand-out favourites. Laura Hughes' illustrations are, as ever, completely charming, instantly accessible for children and demand pouring over on every page. The story is funny and relatable and great for opening up discussion with children about the etiquette and importance of sharing. I can't wait to read these with my own children!”
Independent bookshops around the UK and Ireland will be promoting
The Bear Who Did
throughout January, both instore and on social media. The BA will be supporting the promotion of the children’s
Indie Book of the Month
through social media and promotional materials.
