The Skills Hub is the location for information, guidelines, best practices, and inspiration for running a bookshop.
With over 120 different topics the Skills Hub is the go-to resource for you and your team. With input from fellow booksellers, it is a place to find best practice, tips, and advice on a range of topics. Topics covered include smarter ordering and stock management, writing great newsletters and creating window displays.
There are video tutorials and podcasts to inspire you. We have templates for you to use when emailing publishers to pitch for author events. There are guides to making the most of the BA’s marketing campaigns as well as suggestions on how best to lobby your local MP or member.

The Skills Hub has been developed in partnership with the Independent Publishers Guild (IPG), with software from the world’s leading educational software company, Thought Industries.

The Skills Hub is the ideal place to find information and inspiration for running a bookshop. It's the central hub for all such resources.
Whether you are a sole trader, working alone or a mini chain, you will find topics and information to help. The most popular topics include ideas on smarter ordering, managing non-book product and streamlining your returns, as well as sessions from BA Conferences.

If there is a subject not listed on the BA Learning platform that you would like to have included, email Sheila O’Reilly and we’ll add it to the list.

Each week new content is added to the platform. Our aim is to deliver the content in a variety of formats, through podcasts, videos, top tips, masterclasses, and best practice guides. Consider logging onto the Skills Hub on a regular basis to see what’s new and popular.
