The Snow Dragon by Abi Elphinstone announced as November’s title
01/11/2019
The BA Children’s Bookselling Group has announced The Snow Dragon by Abi Elphinstone as its
Independent Booksellers’ Children’s Book of the Mont
h for November.
From the author of Rumblestar and Sky Song and the Dreamsnatcher Trilogy, The Snow Dragon is the story of Phoebe, who lives at Griselda Bone’s Home for Strays, a gloomy orphanage where daydreaming is banned, and fun is forbidden. But when things seem bleakest, magic awaits Phoebe and her sausage dog Herb in the swirling, snow-filled air.
On the book’s selection, author Abi Elphinstone said,
“Independent booksellers know the power of stories and work with warrior-like passion and tenacity to send them out into the world and I couldn’t be more thrilled to learn that my and Fiona Woodcock’s picture book, The Snow Dragon, is their Book Of The Month for November. I, like so many authors, owe a great deal to our wonderful independent bookshops. They championed my stories from the off - shortlisting them for the Books Are My Bags Readers Awards and appearing alongside me at numerous school visits - so I’m hugely grateful to them for their invaluable ongoing support.”
Illustrator Fiona Woodcock added,
“I’m delighted to that The Snow Dragon has been chosen to be Book of the Month. Independent bookshops are incredible places, each one unique and full of character, run by passionate and knowledgeable people. This is why it means so much that they have chosen to shine a light on The Snow Dragon.”
Emma Bradshaw, Head of Campaigns at the BA, commented:
“Brought to life by Fiona Woodcock’s beautiful illustrations, The Snow Dragon is a captivating story, full of magic and adventure. We are so delighted that the panel has selected Abi Elphinstone’s wonderful story as Children’s Book of the Month for October.”
Chosen by a panel of independent booksellers from a range of new children’s titles, the Book of the Month showcases independent bookshops’ expertise at promoting and selling children’s books.
Independent bookshops around the UK and Ireland will be promoting The Snow Dragon throughout November, both instore and on social media. The BA will be supporting the promotion of the Children’s Book of the Month through social media and promotional materials. Abi and Fiona will be promoting The Snow Dragon with bookshop events in November.
