2016 sees the 400th
anniversary on the death of Shakespeare with coverage and celebration throughout the year; from the BBC, the RSC, the Globe, in schools, in libraries and, of course, in bookshops
In a packed year of activity we want to create a Books Are My Bag
-tinged bookshop day on the day that Shakespeare was born and died; April 23rd.
On that day, the world’s media will be focussed on Shakespeare and Shakespeare Saturday is designed to give booksellers a piece of the action.
The BA will be producing The Bard is my Bag tote bags and t-shirts which will be available to order at cost, as well as free Point of Sale. We will also be providing resource ideas such as teaming up with local schools, actors, and theatres for performance events as well as traditional in-store activity, and we are talking to the BBC and the Hay Festival about featuring bookshop activity on their major new project; 400 Films About Shakespeare. April 23rd
is also World Book Night; so using the occasion to open later on Saturday evening suggests itself
As ever, bookshop activity will be heavily promoted by the BA on social media using the hash tag #bardabag
Lots more information will follow, but for now all we need from you is confirmation that you want to be part of Shakespeare Saturday, by filling out the form
where you can also purchase the bags and/or t-shirts (these can also be ordered at booksaremybag.com
The deadline for ordering the bags and t-shirts is Monday 29th February.
